Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide ran HopeLine 24/7 for almost thirty years, staffed by trained suicide-prevention advisers rather than general volunteers. It was one of very few UK services designed specifically around young people, and one of even fewer that would talk at equal length to a parent, teacher or friend who was worried about someone.
It entered administration in September 2026 after what its trustees described as an extended period of rising demand, increased costs and reduced funding across the sector. The helpline stopped with it.
