9-8-8 launched in November 2023 and replaced the patchwork of ten-digit national lines that came before it. Calls and texts are routed to trained responders, and the service is bilingual by design rather than as an add-on.
It is for anyone thinking about suicide and for anyone worried about someone else — you do not have to be in immediate danger to use it.
