Rise From The Edge

Self-checks

These are the same questionnaires a GP or therapist would hand you. Filling one in before an appointment is genuinely useful — particularly if you tend to say "fine" once you are in the room.

Two things worth saying before you start.

These are scored on your device. Your answers are never sent anywhere — only the final number and the date are kept, and only in this browser.

A number does not decide whether you deserve help. A low score with a life that feels unbearable is still a reason to talk to someone.

Why there is no suicide risk score here

You will not find a questionnaire on this site that tells you how likely you are to attempt suicide, and you never will. There are two reasons, and the second is the one that matters.

The first is that it does not work. Decades of research have consistently found that risk-prediction instruments perform little better than chance at the level of an individual person, whatever they achieve across a population.

The second is that a reassuring answer is dangerous. Someone who is suicidal and is told by a website that they are "low risk" has just been handed a reason not to ask for help. That is a foreseeable harm from a tool that would exist mainly to look rigorous.

If you want to know whether to reach out, the answer is yes — and it does not depend on a score. Here is who to contact.
